Berlin!

Tension #5

Once Stalin introduced the Berlin Blockade, which was a major international crisis in the cold war. It prevented The United States, Britain, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and several other countries of getting food, materials and supplies from arriving to West Berlin. Which began the "Berlin airlift", and intended to supply West Berlin with food and other supplies. It was 327 days long. Other countries were getting upset with us because we were in war and we kept sending them 7 tons of supplies a day, but yet it still wasn't enough.

The Korean War

Tension #4

Truman ordered naval and air support for South Korea when North Korea attacked south Korea. The war began on June 25th, 1950, then a armistice was signed on July 27th, 1953. (A armistice is a state of peace agreed to between opponents so they can discuss peace terms.) After North Korea invaded South Korea the Korean War quickly escalated into a multi-national conflict. The war led to nothing. All it did was prevented communism from spreading into South Korea. The Korean War was known as the "Forgotten War" because it happened during World War II and the Vietnam War on the timeline.

Facts of the Korean War:

33,741 US Dead

23,615 Killed In Action

92,134 US Wounded

The Korean War marks the beginning of the Cold War.

One of the first jets, the F-86 Sabre, was used during the Korean War.

Modern Day Analysis

On April, 8 2010, Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev both agreed to sign a nuclear arms control agreement. Russia and Uninted States agreed that they will cut their nuclear weapons down about a third. The agreement is refered to as START, also added on by a previous agreement that expired in December. Seeing how during the Cold War we were doing the same thing with other countries. But not telling the whole truth of what we were really capable of.

H-Bomb&Sputnik

Tension #3

The Cold War had many tensions, the first was space. The USA and USSR wanted to beat each other to who could be the first in space. The Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik on October 4, 1957. The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball and it marked the start of the space age. After the USSR successfully made the A-bomb, the US needed something stronger. On May 12, the United States exploded the hydrogen bomb on an island in the Pacific. The hydrogen bomb is so much powerful than the regular atomic bomb. It is the most destructive bomb that has ever been invented. The hydrogen bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

Communism.

Tenson #2

The USA's goal of the Cold War was to create a more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community. The US is very influential in the world. The goals of the Cold War were to isolate Communism. The idea was that the US could try to prevent the spread but were not able to invade communists countries. The war was pretty much a fight between capitalism and communism.

Causes&Effects

The Cold War was a period of tension and hostility between the United States of America and the Soviet Union from the mid-40s to the late 80s. Some causes of the cold war was that the Soviet Union wanted to spread its ideology of communism worldwide, which alarmed the Americans who followed democracy, Truman dislike the Soviet Unions president, which was Joseph Stallin, and The Soviet Union was afraid that America would use Western Europe as a base to attack it. The effects of the Cold War were that America became the sole superpower of the world, it led to destructive conflicts like the Vietnam War and the Korean War, and the Berlin wall was torn down and the two Germany nations were now unified. Nations need to learn to live in peace in the 21st century.

McCarthyism Begins.

Tension #1

McCarthyism is the act of people being accused of communism. Joseph McCarthy was a republican senator and a anti-communist-activist. He charged anyone of being a communist. The republicans never stopped him because they were scared of communism too. McCarthys downfall was when he started to accuse american soldiers of being communist. He was also an alcoholic.
