H-Bomb&Sputnik

Tension #3

The Cold War had many tensions, the first was space. The USA and USSR wanted to beat each other to who could be the first in space. The Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik on October 4, 1957. The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball and it marked the start of the space age. After the USSR successfully made the A-bomb, the US needed something stronger. On May 12, the United States exploded the hydrogen bomb on an island in the Pacific. The hydrogen bomb is so much powerful than the regular atomic bomb. It is the most destructive bomb that has ever been invented. The hydrogen bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

Communism.

Tenson #2

The USA's goal of the Cold War was to create a more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community. The US is very influential in the world. The goals of the Cold War were to isolate Communism. The idea was that the US could try to prevent the spread but were not able to invade communists countries. The war was pretty much a fight between capitalism and communism.

Causes&Effects

The Cold War was a period of tension and hostility between the United States of America and the Soviet Union from the mid-40s to the late 80s. Some causes of the cold war was that the Soviet Union wanted to spread its ideology of communism worldwide, which alarmed the Americans who followed democracy, Truman dislike the Soviet Unions president, which was Joseph Stallin, and The Soviet Union was afraid that America would use Western Europe as a base to attack it. The effects of the Cold War were that America became the sole superpower of the world, it led to destructive conflicts like the Vietnam War and the Korean War, and the Berlin wall was torn down and the two Germany nations were now unified. Nations need to learn to live in peace in the 21st century.

McCarthyism Begins.

Tension #1

McCarthyism is the act of people being accused of communism. Joseph McCarthy was a republican senator and a anti-communist-activist. He charged anyone of being a communist. The republicans never stopped him because they were scared of communism too. McCarthys downfall was when he started to accuse american soldiers of being communist. He was also an alcoholic.

Sum It Up.

After World War II, came the Cold War, which was a state of political hostility between countries using means short of armed warfare. The USA and USSR, used to be allies but became enemies because of different government beliefs. As the USSR started to believe in communism, the USA began a new foreign policy called containment that President Truman wanted. The spread of communism started in China into North Korea, which started the war with South Korea. America feared the spread of communism. It was called the Cold War because the nations never directly had a physical fight.
